At the end of the 18th century, by order of the empress, the colony of Sarepta was created in the Saratov province. German immigrants who were invited to develop the Volga lands lived and worked here. It was in these places that gray mustard was bred, which became the best raw material for the production of oil.
Crop seeds obtained from the fields of Russia, Ukraine and Kazakhstan were supplied to many countries.
